Price tool
What should I pay?
Pick the instrument and how far along the player is. You get the range we publish on that instrument's own page, what the money buys at that level, and roughly what the same thing costs second-hand.
Where these numbers come from
Each range is the tier data published on that instrument's own cost page, checked against maker and retailer listings and dated there. Nothing in this tool is calculated from a formula except the used estimate, which applies the 30 to 50 percent second-hand discount described on the used versus new page. Treat that one as a guide rather than a quote, because condition drives it more than any other factor.
If you are choosing a first instrument rather than pricing one you have already picked, the beginner cost guide ranks every entry point on the site, and the rent or buy page covers the case where renting beats both numbers here.
